London Mayor Sadiq Khan remains committed to bringing WWE WrestleMania to London.
With the 2026 event confirmed for New Orleans, Indianapolis is guaranteed a future WrestleMania and rumours that the show may also be held in Saudi Arabia in the next few years, some fans have accepted that the show may never make its way over to London. However, following a new report, it appears that there still is some hope it could happen.
A new report from the Mayor’s office touted the success of six major sporting events that were held in the city in 2024, which boosted the economy by £230 million. The events in question were the UEFA Champions League Final, the London E-Prix, London Athletics Meet, MLB and NFL regular season games.
While outlining future planned events, such as the 2028 EURO Championships and the return of the Olympic Games, WrestleMania is also mentioned: “Building on London’s success, the Mayor has talked up his ambition to bring more of the biggest sporting events in the world to London.
Sadiq has expressed his support for a bid for the Olympics and Paralympics to return to London in 2040, while he remains committed to making London WrestleMania’s first international destination.
The Mayor is also in positive discussions with the NBA to bring games back to the capital, which is supported by the work of his Basketball Taskforce, while the 2029 World Athletics Championships is another target.”
The 2024 Major Sports Events Impact Report for London reveals that 480,000 fans attended these events in the capital last year, while 202 million global viewers tuned in to watch.
Sadiq Khan said: London is the sporting capital of the world and I am proud that we have such a strong track record of staging the biggest and best international events in our great city.
This report highlights the significant economic and cultural benefits major sporting events provide for our city and the huge pride and excitement they create for Londoners and visitors.
These events shine a global spotlight on the capital and inspire young Londoners to get involved in grassroots sport and I am focused on bringing even more for our city as we work together to build a better, healthier, more prosperous London for all.”
Ever since John Cena stated in the summer of 2023 he wanted to see London host a future WrestleMania, fans in the UK have been more optimistic than ever that the announcement will come.
Additionally, a 2024 meeting between Triple H, WWE President Nick Khan and Sadiq Khan in London also appeared to be leading to an announcement in the near future. However, at the time of writing, UK fans are still yet to see the Mania announcement they have been waiting for.
