Punjab Restaurant in Covent Garden, London, is celebrating its 80th anniversary by paying tribute to chairman Sital Singh Maan.
Sital Singh’s grandfather, Sardar Gurbachan Singh Maan, originally opened the restaurant in 1946.
He first opened the doors in Aldgate before moving to 80 Neal Street, Covent Garden, in 1951.
He handed over the reins to his grandson in 1970, after spending a few years helping with various family ventures.
Under his leadership, the restaurant expanded significantly.
The business acquired neighbouring properties, increased its seating capacity and secured the freehold of its Covent Garden premises.
Punjab Restaurant also played a role in campaigns that helped preserve parts of Covent Garden during redevelopment plans in the 1970s.
Today, the fourth generation of the Maan family continues to run the restaurant and serves the same traditional Punjabi dishes that Sardar Gurbachan first offered 80 years ago.
As Punjab Restaurant marks eight decades in business, it remains committed to the values on which it was founded.
These include offering authentic Punjabi food and providing a home away from home for generations of diners in London.
