Two men from Bradford, England, have been praised after helping rescue an elderly couple and their grandchild from a fire in Leeds on Friday, June 19.
Moshin Qayyum, 22, and Mohammed Yusuf Iqbal, 20, spotted the blaze near a property and called emergency services after noticing people inside.
Yusuf said: “We drove past it and saw the bush on fire, and it didn’t look very controlled, so we stopped the car and walked around the fire.
“We saw people inside and called the fire brigade, who said they already knew about it.
“Our next action was getting people out of the house.
“I’d like to think that anyone in their right mind would help.”
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 7:31 pm to reports of a fence fire on Lea Farm Road in Kirkstall.
Three crews attended and extinguished the fire using breathing apparatus, hose reels and a positive-pressure ventilation fan.
Two people were rescued and handed over to the care of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
Firefighters also treated one person at the scene for a superficial burn to their hand.
The fire service said the blaze was caused by combustible items placed close to a heat source.
