Islamiyah Girls’ High School in Blackburn has been praised by Ofsted after inspectors awarded the school five Strong Standards and one Expected Standard, while confirming that all Independent School Standards continue to be fully met.
The report said the school was “championing girls to reach for the stars” and called it a “thriving school community,” where pupils succeed, attend regularly, behave well, and benefit from a culture of ambition, care, and high expectations.
Inspectors also said pupils developed a deep body of knowledge across subjects.
They found that overall attendance is above the national average, that persistent absence is rare, and concluded that “pupils’ behaviour is excellent.”
The report said: “Pupils, including those who are disadvantaged and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, progress very well through the curriculum.
“They produce high-quality work that demonstrates a depth of understanding.
“Pupils, including those who face other difficulties in their lives, develop and secure the important knowledge they need in reading, writing and mathematics.”
It also found that leaders have a strong understanding of pupils’ needs and use assessments, primary school information and input from families to support learning.
Senior leaders were praised for having a clear vision, knowing the school well, and closely monitoring its work to drive improvement.
The report highlighted the school’s focus on personal development, noting that pupils benefit from a rich programme of clubs, trips and activities that build confidence and community involvement.
Headteacher Mehnaz Kauser said: “Just two years ago, we began an ambitious journey to transform every aspect of school life so that every pupil could experience the very best education possible.
“This report reflects the hard work, commitment and belief of our entire school community.
“I am particularly proud that Ofsted recognised not only our academic outcomes, but also our culture, values, and sense of community.”
To celebrate the achievement, Islamiyah School will host its Summer Extravaganza on Saturday, July 5, 2026, from 11 am to 4:30 pm at its Willow Street site.
The free community event will feature more than 40 attractions and stalls, including family rides, inflatables, food and dessert courts, community stalls and activities for all ages.
As a girls’ school, the event is open to females of all ages, with boys under 10 also welcome to attend.
Females, families and members of the wider community are invited to join the celebration.
