Welsh first minister Mark Drakeford was seen shaking a leg and dancing to traditional tunes at the official Indian government Diwali celebrations held in Cardiff on Wednesday, 26 October.
According to reports, the Labour politician, 68, was joined by organisers of the event, Health Minister Baroness Eluned Morgan and Indian Honorary Consul Raj Aggarwal, at the Glamorgan Cricket club in Pontcanna, Cardiff.
Hundreds of guests were invited to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, which is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus across the world.
Raj Aggarwal in his speech at the event spoke about the joy felt by the Asian community after the appointment of Rishi Sunak as UK’s prime minister.
He added, “This week has been a hugely important one in the story of Asian development in British society. As I’m sure you are all aware we now have the first-ever Asian Prime Minister. Regardless of your political persuasion, this is a matter of vital importance. Something that was unthinkable in the 1970s and 80s, has come to pass, and now all British ethnic minorities can know for sure that there are no limits to their ambitions.”
Several Welsh dignitaries including Lord Lieutenant of Glamorgan Morfudd Meredith and Brigadier Andrew Dawes, also made the event even more special through their presence.
