Thousands to attend this year’s Diwali celebrations at Wembley Park

One of the most significant Indian festivals will be celebrated in Wembley Park on 1 October, with thousands expected to attend the event.
Diwali, the festival of lights, will be celebrated with much zeal and zest at the free-to attend family event with several music and dance performances by the Brent community. Many food stalls will be available for people to enjoy some Asian delicacies. Lanterns designed by local school children will also mark the festivities.
Josh McNorton, cultural director, Wembley Park, said, “We are excited to be getting into the Diwali spirit with our 1 October celebration, which will welcome anyone who wants to learn about Diwali and soak up the joyous atmosphere. We’ve curated a packed schedule of events, incorporating a diverse range of performances from the local Brent community for the whole family to enjoy.”

The event is set to start at 1pm and will include a cultural programme which will showcase Classical Indian Odissi Dance, Bollywood dancing, and several exciting performances organized by BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. Indian drumming and bhangra dancers from the Dhol Foundation will also bring cheer to the crowd.
Following the programme, a lantern parade will be held where people will be seen walking through the Wembley Park neighbourhood accompanied by drummers and dancers. The crowd will be lead from the main stage opposite the London Designer Outlet to the Diwali disco at BOXPARK Wembley, where celebrations will continue late in the night.
Other activities include a performance at the London Designer Outlet and a Masalchi food stall, the Wembley Park restaurant run by twice Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar. People can also strike a perfect pose and click pictures with their friends and family by the Tuk Tuk positioned on Olympic Way.
Diwali is a prominent festival celebrated around the world by people observing different faiths. People come together to celebrate Lord Ram’s return to Ayodha after fourteen years in exile by lighting up diyas and decorating their homes with string lights and flowers. This year the festival will be celebrated from 23 to 27 October.
