South Asian healthcare workers nominated for a prestigious award

Healthcare professionals Rukeya Miah and Dr Sufyan Abid Dogra have been shortlisted for the prestigious National BAME Health & Care Awards, an event that honours and celebrates the contributions made by British healthcare workers from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Miah, a qualified nurse since 1994, senior midwife and deputy associate director of Nursing at Bradford Teaching Hospitals, has been nominated in four categories: Midwife of the Year, Outstanding Achievement of the Year, Community Initiative of the Year, and Inspiring Diversity and Inclusion Lead.

Dr Dogra has been nominated in the Ground-breaking Researcher award category for his work in the NHS funded Bradford Institute for Health Research/Born in Bradford (BiB), where he is the lead on projects such as Age of Wonder, Active Faith Settings, Youth Resilience Programme, and the Using Men to Increase Uptake for Cancer Screening among South Asian Women programme.

The National BAME Health & Care Awards is considered to have a huge positive impact on the injustices faced by BAME communities in terms of career progression, bullying, and harassment of those working in the profession and encourages them to climb up the ladder in their respective fields.
