The Sikh Federation (UK) has produced a detailed response to the Bloom Review’s controversial reference to British Sikhs that was published last week. 

According to the Sikh NGO & political lobby group, the briefing note attached challenges the UK’s Independent Faith Engagement Advisor Colin Bloom’s approach and deliberate targeting of those who have legitimately challenged the Conservative government since 2010 on a range of issues. 

The organisation has questioned Colin Bloom’s motivations as regards the disproportionate and negative focus on British Sikhs, and rejected his personal opinions that ignore the ground reality of the law-abiding British Sikh community, it has said.

As the Sikh organisation that has led on political lobbying for more than two decades and has always campaigned for the re-establishment of a Sikh homeland, it is taking the debate on the arguments for the re-establishment of a Sikh homeland to the UK Parliament later this month.

Sikh Federation (UK) is sending the briefing note on the Bloom Review to all MPs and urging Gurdwaras, Sikh organisations and constituents to use the briefing note to lobby their own MPs.  

MPs will be asked at the mass lobby of the UK Parliament later this month to confirm if they have challenged the Bloom Review with regards to British Sikhs.  

The open letter sent to prime minister Rishi Sunak on 24 April by over 350 UK Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations and the response to the Bloom Review are expected to impact the way Sikhs vote on local elections on 4 May.   

Unless the Conservative Government starts to change how it engages with British Sikhs it will impact in dozens of marginal seats at the next General Election in places like West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Derby, the organisation has asserted.
