The second Eid in the Park festival of the year was held at Corporation Park, opposite the historic conservatory in Blackburn during the weekend.
Several families attended the event and indulged themselves in some delicious food, along with exciting rides and shopping.
On Saturday, due to heavy rain in the afternoon, the celebrations were interrupted. However, on Sunday things picked up again as the weather was clear for most of the day allowing visitors to enjoy the occasion.
According to a report by Lancashire Telegraph, the festival was organised on the same weekend as the National Festival of Making. However, the organisers did not receive any funding and took it upon themselves to pay the local authority to use the location for two days.
Mohammad Quraishi who helped to organise the event told Lancashire Telegraph, “You can never tell with the weather as everyone knows but people made the best of it on Saturday.
“Sunday was much better and families were out in force for much of the afternoon.
“It is volunteer led event and is held for the community by the community.
“A huge thank you to everyone who helped to put the event on again this year. We could not do this without them.”
The festival was organised in tandem with the Blackburn Halal Food Festival, where people got to taste some of the best Asian and African cuisines in offer.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen Councillor Parwaiz Akhtar and wife Shagufta paid a visit to the festival and appreciated the efforts made by the organisers in arranging it.
Councillor Akhtar said, “It is always lovely to visit Eid in the Park.
“This is not an easy event to put on and I am glad the rain didn’t interrupt the event for too long.
“I would like to commend the volunteers for their hard work.
“The food is a highlight for me and the stalls always serve up some great meals.”
