Quuwatul Islam Mosque organises an event to honour emergency service workers

The Quuwatul Islam Mosque in Preston made a remarkable gesture towards those who worked tirelessly during the covid-19 pandemic by organising an event to honour them.

The mosque, showed its appreciation to the emergency services and celebrated their services in Lancashire to provide support to the community.

The event was marked by the presence of public sector workers from across Lancashire including the Coroner’s Office, Public Health, Preston City Council, hospital doctors, police, the  Registrar’s Office, cemetery staff and mortuary staff.

Imam Khalid Ibrahim said, “As NASA discovers new stars and galaxies in the universe, Lancashire, and in particular Quwwatul Islam mosque, was blessed to host such auspicious local ’stars’ of our own.

The event was a thank you to all the many services and individuals who had worked tirelessly and selflessly to serve all communities, but in particular my community, the Muslim Community of Preston.” 

Guests at the event got to be a part of and listen to the recitation of the Holy Quran, poems by the local madrasah children and a presentation by the senior and longest serving Imam, Imam Ismail Daud.

Imran Pepe, a committee member at Quwwat Mosque, said, “Muslim communities are indebted to many of the various Lancashire services invited.

The speed of burial was paramount within the Muslim faith, and we are blessed with organisations in Lancashire who go the extra mile to help that happen.”

Among the attendees was the Chief Executive of Preston City Council, Adrian Philips, who paid tribute to the contribution made by the Muslim community during the pandemic.

Philips also highlighted the work of the council through the Preston Faith Covenant, which targeted support via the nominated faith representatives.  

Additionally, he recognised the work done by the Lancashire Resilience Forum.

Imam Khalid added, “The event was a thank you to all the many services and individuals who had worked tirelessly and selflessly to serve all communities and my community, the Muslim community of Preston. Gratitude is an important concept in Islam, and he who does not thank the people is not thankful to God.”
