Preston mosques release a statement condemning the assassination of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh

The untimely death of celebrated and revered Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh came as a shock to the world. As a result, Preston mosques released a joint statement criticising the attack.
Akleh was well-known for her work in the field in the Arab world, especially for the reportage of the Israel-Palestinian conflict and the lives of Palestinians. The 51-year-old was shot dead last week in West Bank town of Jenin during Israel military raid. Her death resulted in worldwide condemnation and anger.
In their statement, the Preston mosques mentioned, “Shireen bravely covered the Palestinian suffering at the hands of the Israeli occupiers for nearly 25 years as an Al Jazeera journalist. Shireen was a Palestinian who had American citizenship but lived in East Jerusalem to cover stories related to her beloved Palestine. Shireen Abu Akleh was a Palestinian Christian, however as Muslims we mourn her loss, we grieve for her family and we will forever be grateful for her service to the Palestinian people. As such, the Mosques of Preston, honour her memory, her dignity and above all her integrity, bravery and professionalism in carry out her job as a journalist.”
