Pilgrims left confused after a new system for Hajj pilgrimage introduced

Ahead of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, many are unsure whether they will be able to fly out of the country in July or not as they have not received confirmations yet.
This year, around 12,000 people are meant to go on the holy journey to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. However, many industry bodies and organisations, which amount to about 124 in the UK, have also stated that are not sure about what pilgrims should do.
People from the UK have finally been allowed to travel after a two-year halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many sources claim that the newly-launched Saudi-backed platform which enables people to express their interest in attending the Hajj has caused even more confusion. Pilgrims have been asked to apply for a Hajj lottery and then book their trip on the website which has no financial protection or refund guarantee.
The Licensed Hajj Organisers (LHO) has said, “There appeared to be confusion regarding the introduction of a new system, two weeks before the first Hajjis are due to fly out. It was still not fully clear whether UK or European Licensed Hajj organisers will be permitted to organise or facilitate Hajj packages alongside the new system.”
