Gurinder Chadha OBE to direct and produce a Disney musical feature

British film director Gurinder Chadha OBE, known for films like Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice, is set to direct and produce a Disney musical feature, inspired by a dynamic princess from Indian history.

According to entertainment news website Deadline, Chadha will co-write the script of the film with Paul Mayeda Berges, with the project being overlooked by Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production.

Berges and Chadha have previously worked together on the 2017 film Viceroy’s House. The filmmaker will be producing the film alongside Lindy Goldstein through the Lindy Goldstein Production banner.

Chadha is a two time BAFTA nominee who rose to worldwide fame after the release of Bend It Like Beckham, which was the highest-grossing British-financed and distributed film ever at the UK box office when it released, and topped box office charts internationally.

In the last few years, Disney has made efforts to commission several diverse Asian stories including films like “Shang Chi”, the “Ms Marvel” series, the animated feature “Turning Red” and the live-action film “Mulan”, PTI reveals.
