A new Glasgow-based charity, Tartan Aid, will hold a launch event tomorrow at The Ark on Coplaw Street in Glasgow to outline its plans to support communities in Gaza.
Tartan Aid was founded by three volunteers – Jeanette, Rebecca and Nazia – and aims to provide humanitarian assistance and raise awareness about the situation in Gaza.
Nazia oversees the day-to-day operations of Tartan Aid, including coordinating activities and managing the charity’s administrative work.
Nazia said: “We started Tartan Aid because we wanted a practical way to support families in Gaza from here in Glasgow.”
Run entirely by volunteers, Tartan Aid states that it prioritises transparency and efficiency.
According to the charity, all money raised is directed to its projects, and no one in the organisation receives a salary.
She said: “Every pound donated goes straight to our projects, and none of our volunteers are paid.”
The group received its charity number a couple of months ago and has since been fundraising and building support.
Volunteers have been present at Celtic football matches, concerts and gigs across Glasgow to raise awareness and funds.
Local venues, including McChuills Pub and Masjid Noor, have allowed Tartan Aid to set up stalls during Jummah prayers on Fridays.
Recently, the charity ran a stall at the Barrowlands but left after complaints were made about Palestinian-themed merchandise being sold there.
Tartan Aid reports that it has established links with three camps in Gaza—Jabalia, Khan Younis and Gaza City—through local partners.
The charity says funds are distributed to each camp via these partners, who are responsible for ensuring assistance reaches intended recipients.
Tartan Aid maintains an active presence on social media, and a website is being developed to provide updates and information on how to donate.

To introduce Tartan Aid to a wider audience and explain how donations are used, the team is hosting a launch event this Saturday, May 30, in Glasgow city centre.
The event will offer information about the charity’s work and provide an opportunity to meet some of the founders and volunteers.
Plans for the event include a presentation with photographs and updates from the three camps in Gaza, along with video material supplied by local partners.
There will also be a stall selling Palestinian-themed merchandise, with proceeds going towards the charity’s projects.
Through the launch event, Tartan Aid aims to increase public awareness of its work and encourage further support for its activities in Gaza.
Nazia said: “The launch event is about transparency, because we want people to see what we do and how their donations are used.”
