First Minister Humza Yousaf appoints Scotland’s first female majority Cabinet

First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, has appointed the new Scottish Cabinet.

For the first time ever, the Cabinet consists of a majority of women, and has five Cabinet Secretaries aged under 40.

“We’re ready to deliver the bold policies needed to drive Scotland’s Covid recovery, protect our NHS and drive a Just Transition to net zero,” a statement by the SNP reads.

It adds, “This is a Cabinet brimming with ambition and energy to deliver a radical, ambitious and progressive policy agenda.” 

The new Cabinet appointed by Yousaf is as follows:

Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Scottish Budget – Shona Robison

Scotland’s new Deputy First Minister Shona Robison is also appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Scottish Budget, driving forward plans to build a fairer and more prosperous nation.

Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health and Social Care – Michael Matheson

Michael Matheson is the new Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health and Social Care, and will work to deliver on the post-pandemic remobilisation of Scotland’s NHS.

Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills- Jenny Gilruth

Jenny Gilruth is the new Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, continuing the party’s mission to tackle the attainment gap, tear down barriers to learning and end the digital divide.

Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing Economy, Fair Work and Energy – Neil Gray

Neil Gray takes on the role as Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing Economy, Fair Work and Energy, as the SNP works towards delivering its vision of Scotland an economy with wellbeing at its heart.
