Body found as search for missing Somaiya Begum underway
Somaiya Begum, 20, was reported missing on 26 June
After more than a week of 20-year-old Somaiya Begum’s disappearance, police have announced that a body has been found in Bradford and a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Begum is described as an Asian female, slim build with black hair. Before her disappearance she was wearing black denim jeans, a black top and a black head scarf.
The police were carrying out extensive search operations and enquiries with the members from the area as well as the rest of the district in a desperate attempt to find her as more time passed by and concerns for her safety grew.
During the investigation, the officers found a body near Fitzwilliam Street, in Broomfields and forensic examinations are currently underway to identify it.
A spokesperson for the police confirmed the details saying, “Detectives investigating the disappearance of Somaiya Begum from Bradford have found a body.
“Extensive enquiries have been carried out since she was reported missing on June 26 to find her, officers would like to thank the community for assisting the investigation which is ongoing.”
“At 7.35pm yesterday (Wednesday) evening a body was found near Fitzwilliam Street, Bradford.”
“A scene is in place whilst forensic examinations are ongoing.”
“Although formal identification has yet to take place the family of Somaiya has been informed.” “A 52-year-old man has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.”
