The mayor of Bolton recently met a talented 20-year-old professional boxer and praised him for his achievements.
Abdul Khan, from Bolton, who is the cousin of former boxing world champion Amir Khan, visited Councillor Zaman Akhtar at the mayor’s parlour on Monday.
Khan so far has been in seven fights and won six of them and hopes to become the next successful boxing champion from Bolton.
After meeting the mayor, he said, “It was amazing to meet the mayor, it was good to meet him, and this is the second mayor I have met now.
“It’s good to see what he does for Bolton as the last time I met the previous mayor, I was only just starting my career and now it’s been another year, I’ve grown as a person and a fighter.
“It’s just good to see the change, meet new faces and get the town behind me.
“I am just going to keep doing what I do best, keep fighting, winning and making the people of my town, proud.”

Khan has always remained close to his roots. He has fought in Bolton and also took part in a public workout at the Market Place Shopping Centre.
Councillor Akhtar was pleased with the young man and said, “I think Abdul is a very talented young man.
“This is the first time I’ve met him and I’m very impressed by his enthusiasm and the energy that he has.
“I think he’s a star in the making and I’m certain given the right level of support and training, he will do really well and will be brilliant news for Bolton, putting us back on the boxing scene.
“He can be seen as a role model for his generation, and this generates positive energy.”
Khan added, “I am looking to make a change, get the kids off the street and give them a purpose.
“I want to encourage them in the gym and stay away from the streets, using their energy in the right way, and doing something positive with their lives.”
Khan is set to be back fighting next year after an exciting start to his career. He is currently training at Roman Physique Gym in Darwen.
