Unaware of her pregnancy, London student gives birth in hospital’s toilet

23-year-old Lalene Malik recently gave birth to her ‘miracle baby’ in toilet of the accident and emergency department of the hospital she was visiting with her mother after suffering from excruciating stomach pain.

Malik was rushed to the Northwick Park Hospital in Greenford, west London, but had no clue that she was pregnant as she had been told to take the contraceptive pill five months earlier and had also taken two pregnancy tests that came back negative in February. Her mother, however, felt that there was something wrong with her daughter despite Malik dismissing it as the result of constipation.

At the hospital, Malik went to the washroom and was about to flush when to her surprise, she noticed the baby’s arm sticking out of the toilet bowl. She was left devastated upon the discovery and felt that her and her son’s lives were in danger. The baby was stuck there for about seven minutes before being rescued by the medics and had to be resuscitated back to life.

After the incident, Malik, who is completing a Master in International Relations at Roehampton University, has accused her doctor at Elm Trees surgery in Greenford of not being able to carry out tests properly and detect her pregnancy.
