UK fans devastated after Punjabi popstar murdered
Regarded as one of Punjab’s biggest popstars, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala, was murdered in broad daylight on Sunday evening at the age of 28, leaving many fans in the UK devastated
Moose Wala was shot dead by a group of unknown men while he was in his car and travelling in Mansa District of Punjab, a day after his security detail was reduced from four to two commandos by the current ruling state government. Two other people are said to have been injured during the attack.
The crackdown on the provision of security was part of the government’s efforts to remove the “VIP culture” in the state led to 400 people being stripped of their security detail. Moose Wala’s murder has resulted in an immense backlash against the government and an official investigation has been launched.
Many fans and celebrities in the UK expressed their shock and disbelief at the news. British Rapper Stefflon Don wrote, “Rest in peace my brother Sidhu Moose Wala … thanks for everything!” Harpreet Kaur, a well-known morning radio presenter at BBC Asian Network was nostalgic and said, “I’ve been blessed to meet many stars in my career. He’s always been the most humble. A game changer! I hosted his first UK tour & saw him go from strength to strength. I’m devastated. You made your stamp my friend!”
Moose Wala’s career had recently taken off and he was considered to be one of the most promising musicians from the state, having achieved massive success from his hit songs.
