Senior Afghan judge not allowed sanctuary in the UK

After providing much-needed help and assistance to the British and Pakistani forces in Afghanistan by prosecuting terrorists from groups like the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and Haqqani, a senior Afghan judge feels “heartbroken, abandoned and backstabbed” due to the lack of support provided by the British government.

The judge, whose name has been anonymised for safety purposes, is currently hiding away from his family. He has to resort to changing his location regularly in order to not get caught and his family has been hiding in the country as well.

On 1 April, a high court ruled in his favour to seek safety in the UK. However, the government has said that he does not meet the requirements to be able to come to the country as his contributions to help them were “minimal” and he was not working directly for the British government.

The judge has expressed his disappointment through an intermediary saying, “I do not regret serving justice upon those who killed innocent people including UK government personnel, but I am heartbroken, abandoned and feel backstabbed by the government for refusing to relocate me in the UK. I plead with them to save my life and the lives of my family.”
