The UK, in the last few weeks has seen plummeting temperatures resulting in school closures and travel disruption throughout the country.
The conditions are set to remain the same for at least a week with freezing fog, ice, sleet and snow resulting in more bitter weather in the upcoming days.
Parts of Scotland, south-western England, the Midlands, north-western England and Wales were hit by snow over the weekend, causing major travel disruptions, Sky News reports.
Several flights were also cancelled at the Dublin airport, with several UK airports temporarily closed due to bad weather and heavy snowfall on the runways.
Further disruption was seen on Monday with some rural areas being completely cut-off because of snow storms.
A Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice is in place for much of northern parts of Scotland, as well as parts of south-eastern England, including London for much of the week.
According to Sky News, gritters have sent out across affected motorways and other major roads to keep them open, while the RAC on Friday revealed that the number of breakdown callouts were 25% higher than usual. However, after the heavy snowfall during the weekend, it was reported that many motorways and roads were shut off.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has advised people to take care of friends and family who are vulnerable in the cold and to ensure they have access to warm food and drinks. People have also been told to maintain indoor temperatures of at least 18C (64.4F).
