People thoroughly enjoy annual multi-cultural event – Glasgow Mela 2022
Despite the gloomy weather, more than 20,000 people stepped out of their homes to attend the Glasgow Mela held at Kelvingrove Park on Sunday, 26 June.
The event was marked by some eye-catching performances by local artists and performers, with attendees including people from across Scotland who came together to celebrate the city’s annual celebration of cultural diversity.
Families were seen having a great day out together, trying out different food at various food stalls, enjoying the performances and participating in the craft stalls.
The multi-cultural event was held at the heart of Glasgow’s West End from noon till 8pm and even though it was a cloudy day, everyone was seen enjoying the rains.
In a vibrant show of music, dance and art, people could be seen having a merry time and letting themselves lose on the dance floor to their favourite music and dance performances.
Several artists were seen performing at the event which included Jaz Dhami with his live band, Hunterz, Deesh Sandhu, Gubi Sandhu, Gtown Desi, Fae Utero, Kedgeree, Chand Ali Khan Qawwal and Top Note.
An artist was also placed in the residence programme, sports programme, interactive storytelling and market clothing stalls.
Many charity tables were also set up at the event to provide assistance to Muslim women who may be facing precarious circumstances, along with disability aid charities and health charities which provided information to those who want to make changes in a healthy way or had any issues to share.
The Scottish-Asian Creative Artists’ Network, who are the programmers for the Glasgow Mela, said, “It has been an amazing Glasgow Mela in Kelvingrove Park and brilliant to have so many people come and see the artists perform, especially as so many of them are from Glasgow and Scotland.”
“Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a vibrant, colourful and joyful occasion,” they added.
