New research reveals how the perfect smile impacts people’s confidence
Leading Dentist and Partner at Chelsea & Fulham Dentist, Dr Imran Sayed 9pictured above), has recently published a national dental survey* to highlight how the UK public are looking after their teeth, what services they are using and what aspects of their smile they would like to improve.
The survey results showed that millions of people in the UK wish for a whiter smile with more than a third of the UK public (38%) admitting they would like whiter teeth. These results varied hugely across genders, with 44% of women wishing their teeth were whiter compared to only 30% of men.
Two-fifths (39%) of the UK believe that having better teeth would directly increase their confidence and nearly one in ten (14%) admitted they would pay to have veneers if they could afford it.
One in four (27%) of the UK public admitted they felt self-conscious about their smile according to the survey results and the most common reasons for these insecurities were due to people wanting their teeth to be whiter and straighter.
Dr Imran Sayed added: “Having practiced dentistry for over 20 years I have seen how demand for cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening and straightening has grown, especially in recent years. The results of the survey highlight the desire for a better smile and this often means better dental health which is positive news.
However many are turning to drastic solutions to gain the ‘perfect smile’ such as unregulated online teeth straightening subscriptions or travelling abroad for cheaper veneer procedures. Having seen first-hand the damage these services can do I would advise any to see their dentist first before considering these or any other services.”
