New food delivery app aims to combat women’s poverty in London
Posted On October , 2024

London’s growing income inequality has disproportionately affected women, with more now living in poverty compared to men, a troubling trend revealed by recent data.
In 2022, 2.9 million lone-parent families in the UK were headed by women, accounting for 84% of such households, highlighting the financial challenges many women face.
In response to this issue, Totalee Halal, in collaboration with the Shahid Afridi Foundation, has launched a new initiative called Empowering Women as Entrepreneurs in Local Communities.
This project is designed to support women from disadvantaged backgrounds in starting their own home-based food businesses. Participants will receive grants, marketing assistance, hygiene certification, and access to a platform to help sell their homemade recipes, all sponsored by Totalee Halal.
CEO and founder Javed Husain shared his thoughts on the initiative, stating: “We are delighted to partner with the esteemed Shahid Afridi Foundation on this meaningful project. Together, we aim to empower women from underprivileged backgrounds, we are keen to fund this project and provide them with the necessary resources to become Home chefs and run their own business.
We want to uplift our community, and this initiative is crucial for us. A woman in need, with a family to care for, faces many challenges. By empowering a woman, we empower her family, and in doing so, we uplift an entire community.”
To further promote the initiative, popular actor and model Imran Abbas is set to officially launch the Totalee Halal app at an upcoming festival. Fans that download the app will have a chance to win one of five exclusive meet-and-greet experiences with Imran Abbas.
Totalee Halal is also offering 500 free tickets to customers and merchants to attend the festival and celebrate the launch.
As part of a special promotion, Totalee Halal has teamed up with local restaurants Smacks Hamburgers and Steakout to offer a free cheeseburger and cheese balls to anyone who downloads the app. The offer is available for pick-up at participating locations.
