Mother-son duo provide free food to the vulnerable affected by the inflation crisis

Tahira Safdar and her son Imran, who run a shop in Huddersfield have taken the route of compassion and kindness by offering to help those suffering due to the cost-of-living crisis in their community.

The duo who own the Lockwood Premier Store, who observed the sufferings of people who struggled to put food on the table, have been offering tins of beans and bread free of charge while respecting their privacy when needed. They have also been delivering the food to people’s homes.

The Facebook page of the store mentions, “With an awful cost-of-living crisis hitting many of us once again, we shall endeavour to help those who are struggling financially. In these incredibly challenging economic times, many parents and elders are running short of the basics even by the middle of the month. So, if anyone who is classed as vulnerable or needs a bit of help then please pop into the store to pick up a free loaf of bread and a tin of beans, no purchase is required. Or If a person is really struggling or has hungry children, we will try and add in some extra items depending on availability.”

The mother and son have been carrying on the legacy of Mohammed Safdar, Tahira’s husband and Imran’s father, who passed away during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
