London man tried for smuggling cocaine worth £5.5 million with two others

South Asian origin London man Moynul Hoque was tried along with two other men, Joseph Gray of Draperstown in Northern Ireland and Usman Iqbal, of Bradleigh Avenue in Essex for smuggling drugs worth £5.5 million.

The drugs were discovered at the port of Holyhead, on Anglesey, in October 2020, hidden in a lorry full of orange juice and yogurt. One of the men got very flustered while trying to transport cocaine to the North Wales port. The trio intended to sell cocaine on the streets of the UK according to the prosecutor Simon Mills.

A total of four boxes containing 69 packs of high purity cocaine were found behind the orange juice and yogurt packets by the Border Force officers after an anxious Joseph Gray admitted that there were things hidden inside which he did not put. Hoque and Iqbal had picked up the drugs a day earlier in Bristol, and were eventually arrested in December after having fled to France.
