Islamic Relief UK was delighted to be awarded Charity of the Year at the Third Sector Awards in Central London in September. The Third Sector Awards recognises the efforts of charities around the UK, from fundraising campaigns to marketing and communications work.
The award recognised the significant work of Islamic Relief in 2021, during which the charity experienced a record-breaking year raising over £38.6 million. Despite the unprecedented impact of the pandemic and financial strains of the UK economy, Islamic Relief was able to reach and support millions of people in struggling communities across the UK and the globe continuing to alleviate poverty, empower communities, and respond to disasters.
Islamic Relief is a faith-inspired, development and humanitarian agency working to transform and save the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in over 40 countries. Islamic Relief assists people according to need and does not discriminate in any way.
Despite it being the second year that the charity was operating during the pandemic, it was an incredibly successful year with fundraising efforts reaching more people than ever. As the pandemic continued to impact the ability to fundraise in person, the charity nimbly adapted and raised ground-breaking figures during the key month of Ramadan through improved digital efforts across all channels, raising £17.6 million.
Tufail Hussain, Islamic Relief UK Director said, “We are thoroughly honoured to win this award and it’s a huge testament to the hard work and dedication of our teams. Whilst it’s been a challenging couple of years during the pandemic our teams have pulled together and ensured our work reaches more people than ever. This award is dedicated to every single member of the Islamic Relief family.”
