Imam dismissed from his roles as Government adviser

Imam Qari Asim, who was an Independent Adviser and Deputy Chair of the Government’s Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group, was recently dismissed from his roles.

The Imam is said to have supported the protests against the release of the film ‘The Lady of Heaven’, believed to be based on Prophet Muhammad’s daughter. It was stated that he had taken a step towards spreading religious hatred through his actions. However, he argues that the accusations are “inaccurate”.  

In a letter from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DHLUC), Asim was informed of his dismissal, which he claims to have learned about through the media, as he had not received the actual letter. This, according to him, has meant that he could not contend the reasons behind his redundancy or clarify any misunderstandings.

The DHLUC said in its letter that Asim was dismissed with “immediate effect” and that they were left with “no option” as he had encouraged the campaign for cinemas to stop the screening of the film.
