First Indian origin woman selected as debutante at Queen Charlotte’s Ball

24-year-old Jasleen Grewal-Dhoot from Cardiff has made history by becoming the first woman of Indian heritage to attend Queen Charlotte’s Ball as a debutante.
Having grown up in a council estate to Indian immigrant parents, the event is a big deal for the young Welsh-Indian who will get the ultimate ‘Bridgerton’ experience, which featured luxurious balls similar to the one she attended.
Grewal-Dhoot’s estranged father passed away after falling ill because of Covid-19 back in 2021, making it the first and the last time she saw him. This incident made her want to break the walls she had created around herself and do things she always wanted to do, prompting her to send a CV and be a part of the coveted Queen Charlotte’s Ball.
The young woman admitted that she never thought she would be chosen but Jennie Hallam-Peel, Chairman of the London Season, said she “liked her enormously” when she went through her CV. Grewal-Dhoot was seen having a rather awkward exchange with Prince Mohsin Ali Khan from Hyderabad but has said that taking part in the ball finally put her out of her comfort zone and helped her learn a lot.
