A Scottish doctor, who has been convicted sexually assaulting several of his female patients for about four decades, recently had his medical license scrapped.
Krishna Singh, 73, who is a former GP from Airdrie, Lanarkshire, targeted about 50 women which included rape victims, teenagers and pregnant women. He is said to have kissed, groped, conducted inappropriate examinations, and made unsettling remarks during appointments with his patients.
The High Court in Glasgow on 25 May, 2022, sentenced the disgraced doctor to 12 years in prison after he was found guilty of more than 50 charges at the end of a two-month long trial.
After being convicted, Singh challenged the sentence but lost the appeal in early December 2022.
He has now been erased from the Medical Register after a tribunal found that he would not be able to practice as his fitness to do so was impaired, Daily Record reports.
The Tribunal stated, “[Dr Singh’s] conduct was fundamentally incompatible with continued registration. The Tribunal determined that Dr Singh’s conduct was so serious that no other sanction would sufficiently address its concerns.
“Dr Singh asserted his innocence throughout the criminal proceedings and pleaded not guilty to all of the criminal charges. He has been unable to engage with consideration of the impact of the incident on his patients or the wider public.
“Dr Singh’s actions have brought the reputation of the profession seriously into disrepute. It considered that members of the public and the profession would find his actions to be absolutely deplorable and morally reprehensible.”
Singh earned his qualification as a doctor in India in 1974. He is then reported to have registered with the General Medical Council as a doctor in November 1976, after which he decided to take up the job as a GP in North Lanarkshire.
An investigation into his misconduct was launched in 2018 after a complaint was filed at NHS Lanarkshire.
