Dialled In 2022 set to take place in London to promote South Asian artists

Dialled In music festival is making its way to London this year to promote and shine the spotlight on talented British Asian musicians who have remained underrepresented in the UK music industry since time immemorial.

Tickets for the event are currently on sale online and will take place on 10 September in Walthamstow at Uplands Business Park from 12pm. Over 30 artists are set to perform across five stages including DJs, live acts, art installations and music stalls.

The event is said to be a big affair and is being entirely organised by the South Asian community with the objective of promoting South Asian artists and additionally encourage community members to break the confines of just achieving academic excellence and choose the creative route.

The festival, which was launched in 2021, is set to bring artists of multiple South Asian countries together and will provide a platform for audiences from various nations like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to engage and have fun with each other.

A spokesperson for Dialled In said to MixMag in an interview, “The aim of Dialled In is to showcase how South Asian artists have been boxed in by a predominantly white-focused creative industry. The work aims to inspire younger South Asian creatives by breaking down doors and paving a way forward.”

Dialled In comes at a time when South Asian artists in the UK have finally begun to gain much-deserved fame and fanbase. It was set up when Co-Founder Ahad Elley was approached by Waltham Forest Council with the idea.

Elley decided to take the matter in his own hands and preserve the identity of the community, and since then it has become more than just a music event, with various events and Q&A sessions and mentorship programme, all being a part of the experience.

Additionally, Dialled In has also been meaningful in creating a support system for aspiring creatives of South Asian backgrounds who do not have the support of their families as they do not consider it the ideal career choice.
