Bradford Senior Midwife awarded the British Empire Medal

Rukeya Miah, Deputy Associate Director of Nursing and Senior Midwife at Bradford Royal Infirmary, who has received several accolades and praises for her dedication and work in maternity and healthcare education when the Covid-19 pandemic had taken the world by a storm, received pleasantly shocking news recently.

Ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the 51-year-old senior midwife was informed that she is the recipient of the British Empire Medal (BEM), for her contribution in the field of vaccination, the perfect gift she will get ahead of her birthday on the 14^th of June.

Having to hold back from telling her loved ones the news up until now, Miah said, “I’m so busy at work though that I have just tried to forget about it but now the time has come for the news to go out, I am relieved and delighted. It’s just an incredible honour to be doing the job I care and am passionate about in the NHS over the past 30 years, and to serve our community during the pandemic has been an incredible responsibility but one I am justly proud of.”

 Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire will present Miah with her award and she will also be invited to attend the Royal garden party set to take place at a later date.
