Boris Johnson strengthens trade and security as part of his visit to India
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s two-day visit to India saw him discuss trade and security ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
After a long Covid delay, PM Johnson and PM Modi were able to meet and talked about UK’s plans to streamline licensing rules to make it easy for India to import military hardware and reduce its dependence on Russia for military equipment. They also plan to tighten their security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region which includes the vast Indian Ocean. PM Johnson also discussed renewable energy plans and set a target for this autumn when both countries plan to sign a trade deal.
On his visit, PM Johnson told the reporters, “The world faces growing threats from autocratic states which seek to undermine democracy, choke off free and fair trade and trample on sovereignty. The UK’s partnership with India is a beacon in these stormy seas.”
