Ramgarhia Gurdwara on Bolton road is providing relief to members of the community facing issues as a result of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis in the UK, by providing free food.
The Gurdwara’s Sikh community members have invited people to eat langar meals, regardless of their faith and backgrounds. The langar, which is a community kitchen in Gurdwaras, is known to provide meals every day of the week to the public who visit the religious place, and is a big part of the Sikh faith and belief system of service to others and equality.
Due to having limited staff to run the kitchen, Ramgarhia has encouraged people to visit during lunchtime on Sundays when more volunteers gather to help out.
President of the Gurdwara, Dr Kuldip Kaur Bharj OBE, DL, said, “The purpose of the langar is to provide everyone in need of food with something to eat. Anyone, irrespective of caste, class, religion and gender is welcome. The whole concept is to empower the community. It is a mutual support network where people donate the food and make it together.”
