A legendary Bollywood actor and comedian was spotted in Edinburgh over the weekend.
Johnny Lever, who made a name for himself in the Hindi film industry with notable roles in blockbuster films including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Koi… Mil Gaya, Baazigar, Baadshah and Phir Hera Pheri, among others, is a well-known face across the world today.
The 65-year-old was one of the first stand-up comics in India and has starred in over 350 films since he began his career in the entertainment industry in the 1980s.
During his visit to the capital of Edinburgh, the renowned Indian celebrity explored Fort Kinnaird and made a stop at Chaiiwala to indulge in delicious street food.
Gurnav, the store manager interviewed by Edinburgh Live, expressed his joy in welcoming the star on Saturday, 15 July. He mentioned that Lever was extremely pleased with the food and repeatedly complimented the team, stating, “Your food is exceptional!” Additionally, the Bollywood icon savoured a cup of Karak Chaii, a hot beverage prepared with fermented black tea, spices, and sugar.
Since there were only six members of staff working that day, all of them got the chance to interact with him and felt honoured that Lever chose to dine there.
The restaurant added: “It is an honour to welcome Bollywood legend Johny Lever for some food and Karak Chaii at the Fort Kinnaird.”
In March of this year, Chaiiwala expanded its New Delhi-style cafe concept to Edinburgh, marking its entry into Scotland. While specialising in tea, the brand also offers a diverse menu featuring options like Desi Breakfast, English-Ish Breakfast, Karachi Bun Kebab, Chicken Tikka in Naan, and Masala Chips, ensuring a wide variety of choices for customers to enjoy.
