Artist Salma Zulfiqar’s film on climate change to premiere in prestigious Venice art exhibition

British artist Salma Zulfiqar’s film ‘Migration Blanket’ is set to premiere in Venice, Italy in the attendance of HRH Princess Esmeralda of Belgium on April 23 this year.

The film is based on the effects of climate change on women’s lives leading them to marry early and being unable to get a good education. It features Zulfiqar’s artwork along with over 400 pieces of art, handmade by over 150 women in 17 countries which were created in ARTconnects workshops organised by Zulfiqar.

Shofika, a Rohingya refugee and a participant who features in the 25-minute long film said and campaigns against climate change talked about the tough times she had to face back in her country due to floods and that climate change was responsible for destroying her house and in her not being able to attend school.

The movie intends to inform the audience about the dire consequences of climate change and will also be showcased at the Commonwealth Games in the UK. It makes Zulfiqar the first British Pakistani to hold an exhibition at the reputable Venice art show.
