Anu Vaidyanathan is an Indian filmmaker, comedian, and engineer. In 2009, she was the first Indian triathlete to complete an Ironman Triathlon. Later that same year, she became the first Asian triathlete to finish an Ultraman race.
Now, she is ready to share her personal journey in her debut theatre show, Menagerie. This show is a poignant exploration of the experiences of a South Asian immigrant, who has grappled with the loss of direction and language, and ultimately discovered the importance of seeking assistance and help.
Menagerie is not just about Anu’s personal experiences but also about universal themes that resonate with many. It delves into the complexities of modern motherhood, the immigrant experience, and the life of a South Asian married to a North Indian—her opposite in physique, temperament, and wisdom.
Vaidyanathan said: “I have been living away from home since I was 16, and I embraced this independence with the resources I had.
“I have been fortunate in many ways, such as pursuing education and sports; I now see things from a broader perspective. This experience has helped me recognise the challenges and growth of stepping outside the home.”
