Glasgow Mela returns to the city after two years

The much-anticipated Glasgow Mela is finally back after a long two-year wait. The event, which is attended by many to celebrate the cultural diversity in Glasgow, will be held in Kelvingrove Park on 26 June this year.

The event, which is being programmed by the Scottish-Asian Creative Artists Network, will feature many talented local, national and international musicians, artists and performers along with some delicious food and marketplaces for the attendees to enjoy. People can attend the mela for free and do not need tickets for entry.

It is an occasion which is best enjoyed in person in the beautiful surroundings of Kelvingrove Park, savouring the brilliant music and enjoying the innovative and exciting performances. The timings for the mela are from noon till 8 pm, and will involve a Mela Artist in Residence who will conduct an interactive artwork workshop with the audience. Everyone who wants to attend can expect a day of fun and participatory activities along with some eye-catching and wonderful dance and music performances.

The word ‘mela’ is derived from a Sanskrit word which means a ‘gathering’. The Glasgow Mela was first organised in 1990 as part of the European City of Culture and has since become one of the most awaited events in the city. Over the years, the event has attracted thousands of people, artists and performers from all over the world for a day of cultural celebration.
