A British Asian businesswoman has been named a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year 2025 at the Muslim Women Awards.
Hasina Momtaz (pictured above), founder of Soul Gems London, launched the brand in 2019 in memory of her son, Sami Ahmed, who died in a road traffic collision two days before the planned opening of his first restaurant in London in 2014. What started as a personal tribute has since developed into a faith-inspired jewellery business.
The Muslim Women Awards celebrate the achievements of women making notable contributions in fields including business, media, community, and culture. This year’s shortlist includes public figures such as Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain MBE and MP Zarah Sultana.
Speaking about the nomination, Ms Momtaz said the recognition “is deeply personal”, adding: “I founded Soul Gems London in memory of my son, after the most painful loss a parent can face.
What began as a way to honour his unfulfilled business dream has grown into a brand that offers connection and touches others through messages of resilience, comfort and hope.”
Before launching her business, Ms Momtaz worked in media and crisis communications, advising politicians including Boris Johnson and Ken Livingstone.
Soul Gems London has held a pop-up residency at Westfield and has supported a number of charitable causes, including National Charity Week, Medical Aid for Palestinians and Forgotten Women.
The brand has received media attention and endorsements from public figures such as Islamic scholar Mufti Menk. Hasina has also been recognised by Asian Standard London as a leading figure from the Bangladeshi community.
Founder of the Muslim Women Awards, Suada Mohamoud, said: “Her story is touching and inspiring, and it was clear how much she has impacted the community from the number of public nominations she received.”
The awards are due to take place next year, celebrating individuals recognised for resilience, leadership and community impact.
