Jemima Goldsmith’s film ‘What’s love got to do with it?’ bags four awards at the National Film Awards UK

Congratulations are in order for the team behind the film ‘What’s love got to do with it?’, as it bagged four awards at the prestigious National Film Awards held in London this week.
Producer Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of Pakistan’s prominent political leader Imran Khan, was ecstatic as she and her crew members went up on stage to collect the awards. Multi-award winning Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who directed the film, was also present at the ceremony.
The film, released in February of this year, is a romantic drama that revolves around the story of a Pakistani and a British couple seeking a relationship, showcasing a beautiful fusion of Pakistani and British cultures.
The movie stars Pakistani actress Sajal Aly who made her Hollywood debut. Along with her, Bollywood veteran actress Shabana Azmi, as well as Shazad Latif, Lily James, Asim Chaudhary and Emma Thompson also joined the cast. Revered Pakistani music legend Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has also a special cameo appearance in the film.
Taking to Twitter, Goldsmith wrote, “No one likes a show-off. But…we won four awards for our film last night and I felt so grateful and happy.”
Listing the triumphs, she mentioned that the film won Best Screenplay, Best British Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor.” She concluded her tweet saying, “Thank you and well done to the entire team.”
Kapur is known for some memorable films like ‘Bandit Queen’, the British biographical drama ‘Elizabeth’ for which he was nominated for best director at the BAFTAs and Golden Globes, and its sequel ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’ (2007), which won Cate Blanchett her first acting Oscar.
The filmmaker is currently planning a sequel to his directorial debut ‘Masoom’. The film is titled as ‘Masoom… The New Generation.’
