The Royal Mint presented a cheque for over £47,000 to Islamic Relief to support the charity in raising vital funds for its life-saving work around the world last month.

The Royal Mint, renowned as the home of precious metals, pledged to donate 2.5% from the sale of its 20g Kaaba Gold Bullion Bars, throughout the holy month of Ramadan. The bars formed part of The Royal Mint’s diversity offering and have been popular with the Muslim community.

Andrew Dickey, Director of Precious Metals at The Royal Mint, said, “I’m so proud that The Royal Mint is donating over £47,000 to Islamic Relief from the sale of our 20g Kaaba Gold Bullion Bars.

“Representing diversity through our products is so important to us and we worked closely with the Muslim Council of Wales to create a design that would be recognisable and meaningful to the Muslim community and it’s been, and continues to be, a very popular product.

“Our partnership with Islamic Relief has allowed us to attend their fundraising events in London, Manchester and Glasgow, and gift three gold bars to the charity, which raised a further £9,000 through auctions. For The Royal Mint to be able to present this final cheque to Islamic Relief ahead of Hajj is extra special.”

Speaking about The Royal Mint’s donation, Tufail Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK, said, “It’s been a pleasure to partner with The Royal Mint who have raised significant funds through the sale of the Kaaba Gold Bullion Bars. These funds will support our life-saving work in Turkiye and Syria, helping families to rebuild their lives following the impact of the devastating earthquakes.”

The final donated figure is £47,560.59, which consists of 2.5% from sales of the Kaaba Gold Bars during Ramadan, in keeping with Zakat, the percentage of wealth Muslims are expected to donate. The Royal Mint also gifted three bars to the charity, raising an additional sum of more than £9,000.

The 20g minted gold bar depicting the Kaaba was designed by Emma Noble, in consultation with the Muslim Council of Wales and is on sale at www.royalmint.com/invest/honoured-in-gold All bullion product transactions with The Royal Mint are sharia compliant.

As part of its charitable giving, The Royal Mint announced this month that it will donate all net proceeds from the sale of a collectable 50p celebrating the NHS’ 75th anniversary to NHS Charities Together and the figure could reach £225,000.
