One of the most well-known and respected directors from the Indian film industry has been honoured by the UK parliament.

Karan Johar, informally referred to as KJo, is an Indian filmmaker, producer and television personality, who is responsible for giving a huge platform to multiple talents who have gone on to become big names in the industry. Some of his popular films include ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998), ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ (2001), ‘My Name is Khan’ (2010), ‘Raazi’ (2018), and ‘Shershah’ (2021).

On June 20, the UK Parliament honoured him for his exceptional achievements and the contributions he has made to the global entertainment landscape. This comes as he celebrates 25 successful years in the sector.

KJo and his company Dharma Prodcutions took to Instagram to share the exciting news with all the followers and fans. In the first photo, he is seen standing outside the UK Parliament in London holding a photo frame of the letter of honour he received. In the second picture, he was clicked inside the venue where he was honoured by Baroness Verma of Leicester, dressed in a sleek black outfit.

Johar captioned the post, “Today has been such a special day! I am fortunate and deeply grateful to be honoured at the British House of Parliament, in London by the esteemed Baroness Verma of Leicester. We celebrated my 25th year as a filmmaker in the film industry and I launched the teaser for #RockyAurRaniKiiPremKahaani too (sic)!”

He added, “It’s one of those days where I pinch myself and realise that dreams do come true. Thank you everyone for the unabashed love you have shown me in my journey. And I promise you, there is more to come! (folded hands and red heart emojis) @ukparliament (sic).”
