Bolton man “disgusted” after rubbish illegally dumped near his house

A man has said that he is “disgusted” by the hoarding of rubbish in the back street next to his home.
Noman Arshad told The Bolton News that he first noticed fly-tipping about a month ago. This has been occurring on an alleyway off Brandwood Street in Daubhill, and as a result, children have not been able to play because of the filth that has piled up.
Described by Arshad as usually a “nice area”, he has said that the place has now become a spot for regular fly-tipping, where recently an old mattress was also dumped.
Arshad said: “I noticed it almost a month ago.
“The kids can’t play outside when it’s nice weather.
“People have just been emptying their rubbish in the back street.
“It’s the first time it has happened.
“It feels like no one cares and when someone sees someone throw rubbish, they do the same, thinking it’s a place for rubbish.”
Arshad added that the waste that is thrown includes bags full of rubbish, as well as building material.
He claims that many of the neighbours are also upset about the situation and want a solution to this as soon as possible.
Arshad said, “It’s usually a nice area, but it’s making the area worse.
“I wasn’t sure what to do and who to report it to.”
Councillor Abdul Acha has said that it is part of an ongoing issue that has been reported on several times and is prevalent across the borough.
He said, “It is an ongoing issue where there is a problem with the resources where there are breakdowns with vehicles, and operational issues.
“It’s not acceptable.
“We need resources to tackle this problem, but things will not change straight away.
“The new administration will make the street cleaning cycle more frequent, and it will be more demand led, based how much of an issue it is for some areas.”
Councillor Acha added, “Changing behaviours is very important and working with leaders and scholars helps encourage people of faith to change their behaviour.
“We have a lot of Muslim people living in Rumworth and this could help raise awareness.”
He has also urged that whenever residents see someone fly-tipping in their area, they should gather evidence of such incidents. They can submit them as statements, pictures, or videos, which can help the authorities take an enforcement action.
